敬老の日
９月の第三月曜日は「敬老の日」です。１９４７年に兵庫県の村が始めました。「老人を大切にし、年寄りの知恵を借りて村作りをしよう」という趣旨でした。１９６６年には「多年にわたり社会につくしてきた老人を敬愛し、長寿を祝う」国民の祝日となりました。
この日各地でさまざまな行事が行われます。この日美術館などの施設が無料になったりします。またプレゼントをしたりお年寄りを囲んで食事会などをしたりします。自治体によっては「お祝い金」や「記念品」を配ったり長寿者を表敬訪問したりします。毎年テレビのニュースでは日本一長命の人が取り上げられます。
日本人の２００８年の平均寿命は女性が８６・０５歳、男性７９・２９歳です。
女性は２４年連続で長寿世界一となり、男性の１位はアイスランドで７９・６歳日本男性は４位でした。日本は世界でも有数の高齢化社会に突入しています。核家族化が進んで一人暮らしの老人、老人夫婦だけの家族が増えています。
老人が幸せに暮らしていける国はいい国だと思います。経済的な不安、健康上の不安、家族関係など老人を巡る問題は少なくありません。安心して生活できるだけの収入としての年金、たらい回しされることがない入院、介護の問題など解決しなければならないことがたくさんあります。「敬老の日」だけお年寄りのことを考えるのではなく常日頃から敬っていかなければならないのではないでしょうか。
